The rate at which prices paid by consumers on a year-over-year basis continued to slow in December declining for the second consecutive month. On a year-over-year basis, prices were up 6.45%, down from the peak of 9.06% in June. Looking on a year-over-year basis, the largest increases in prices for transportation services (car repair and air fare), shelter, household furnishings and medical care. The increase in the shelter index (+7.5%) accounted for more than half of the total increase.
